My bath room shower stall ( and house ) was built in 1968. The shower stall has white tiles ( 1& 1/4 by 4&1/2 inches) We are now having problem with mould in the grouting and iron stain. Have used various bath room cleaners with out much luck. Have been carefull with the grouting, did not want to harm it. Is there any way to attack the mould problem? Do we have to have the stall regrouted? Or go all the way with a complete replacement? Have no problems with leaks. Have a shower door that needs replacment. The stall and bath room are on the small side , so we need a shower door. Thanks

If there is a mudbed behind the tile, it probably is never really drying out. Do you leave the door open when you are done to let air circulate? Not a whole lot you can do. This is why Kerdi is such a great product, only the thinset and grout can get wet, so it dries completely and quickly.
Thanks. So show how dumb I am, what is Kerdi
Same thoughts as the other poster. If you have drywall behind the tile (which was common then) the drywall is probably always damp and the grout never dries. If this is so, eventually you'll have to rip out the whole thing and retile it. But if the wall is sound now then cleaning and airing it out is the best answer. A capful of bleach in a quart of water, letting it soak in the grout, and a brushing with a soft toothbrush can remove the mold.
Do you keep the shower doors and the door to the bathroom open whenever the room is not in use?
Thanks Wayne. Do keep both doors open
Do you have and use a bathroom fan?
Yes, with timer.

Do you have a vent fan and do you use it? They can help. You can clean the grout with chlorine bleach. You can also re-grout which will help keep water from getting in. Use a sealer on the new grout.
