Mounting sliding drawers under workbench

Francorosso | Posted in General Discussion on September 25, 2006 02:36am

Take a look at the photo which I attached (I hope) and let me know if there is a way to mount my drawers to the underside of the workbench.  If there were cabinets then I would use standard drawer sliders, but there isn’t anything to attach the sliders to.

Yes, I’m a dumbass for not figuring it out before I bought the drawers. Thanks in advance for the help.

I put some drawers under my workbench with drawer slides that mount to the underside of it. Don't know the specific brand, but they're out there.

You could also fasten a 2X6 (or other lumber) in a vertical position between each drawer and put drawer slides on the sides of them.

I see no photo, but there is hardware available to hang from a countertop.  Grass, blum, KV etc.

Or, hang "sides" down from the top and use that to mount hardware.

Or build boxes to house the drawers, hang those from the top.

I put pairs of vertical 2x4s under my benches, and have literally dozens of drawers - standard 28" full-extension side-mount slides.

Forest,Nice shop. Is that a gas unit heater in the last pic?How many steps up to that door?Do you have an overhead/grade entrance? It is great to see where all of the fine work you do is fabricated..
I do remember the pic of the second story balustrade surrounding your radial saw sort of like a playpen.Chucklive, work, build, ...better with wood

The box on the wall is a circulating air cleaner - Delta.  Never gets cold enough here that a 110-V electric heater won't heat it - it's well insulated .

The wood shop is walk-in on the West side; sides and back are 3-4' below grade.  The (5) steps go up that grade East to the garage / metal shop / storage area, a 22' x 14' slab on grade bldg - it has a roll up door on the North end.  It also has a covered porch and a nice door, porch swing and porch light on the street side, so everything hides behind what looks like a tiny cottage

It's kind of an accretion of growth as my needs for space increased!

Attached on the West side is 20' x 30' pole barn for wood storage and to park the camper.

            All posters,

Thanks for the suggestions. I was thinking of hanging  2x6's under the workbench, but I figured there has to be other ways and you all showed them to me. Now if I can figure out why I attached a photo to my original posting and it didn't show up. Anybody had the same issue?
