I goofed. I posted the wrong pictures. Those are of a giant windmill. I will correct my post tonight.
Stan
we like them anyway
your pics always have the craziest file names, they must drive you crazy trying to remember which are which!
Now was that stair picture a1a1a1a1a1a1a1? or a1a1a1a1a1a?Justin Fink - FHB Editorial

If I ever get over to Stan country (I'm a couple hours west of him) and he has a PC handy, I'm going to give him a 10 minute rundown on computer file management.
I think he is adding "1a" to each new group of photos so that they show up at the top of his monster list of picture files.
I find it ironic that someone who has such a clean, functional shop has such a messy file system on his PC. :) He doesn't realize how easy it is to file the pictures.

John: You got it...I have about 2000 pictures in my computer and keep my new ones ahead of the old ones by adding a 1A to them. Pretty clever huh? never mind.....I am not retarded....just s-l-o-w. Actually...my grey matter is all used up building curved stairways and flying my gyrocopter. I hate computers.
Anyway,,,here are the pictures I meant to post
Stan
Wow, and I thought you meant drywall mud! Sure glad you didn't drop it in that soup.

I've got over 20,000 pics on my work PC. And that is just the ones on the hard drive, it isn't counting the ones stored on network drives. But generally speaking, I can find a specific picture in just a few seconds. For instance, I just remembered that dual spiral you did a year or so back. So I popped up WindowsExplorer/My-Computer. Clicked on the folder with my personal pics. Then Taunton folder, then StanFoster folder (you are one of about 6 people I have folders on because of the volume of pics worth saving). Scrolled down to 'dual' and found one (attached). Took me longer to type that out than it did to find the pic. It takes literally about 2 seconds to create a folder. And once created, you can drag stuff into it.
With all the pics we've seen of your workshop I can tell you are a tidy/organized person. It would be real easy to do the same with your pics.
I assume you are using a digital camera? If so, tell me what you do to get the pics from the camera to the PC.
Trust me, it ain't as painful as you might think. No greymatter required. ;)

For a lot of pictuer handling labeling ect i use http://picasa.google.ca/intl/en/#utm_source=en-all-more&utm_campaign=en-pic&utm_medium=et
I't free from google and dose a great job. The other hasle I have is people always asking for a copy so i use the web album and use picasa to upload them then tell people go get them there self as I'm not good keeping pices of paper with email adresses on them.
You don't need a separate program. WindowsExplorer/My-Computer is very simple to use and comes with every Windows PC.

it's poor for bulk management I take 4-500 pictuers on a weekend with close to 90000 pictuers it alows me to do a lot that you cant to with exploer and with large amounts it can take a concederable time to thumbnais to show.
LOL. I thought it was a binary code.

I've always loved and pained over your Great work.
The pained part is knowing how I doubt that I would even be qualified to sweep up the the saw dust in your shop.
In the old days I may have gained a little altitude in the flying department relative to the sweeping sawdust.
But on to the picture thing I'm not sure that I had heard that you even had a problem with your file system? Seems like you get the good stuff out just fine.
But one thing I use that may help(consider the idiot source) is if what ever your using you expand the view to include listing the dates of the entry(it is done automatically) but does not show on the screen unless you mark it to show that detail. Then you can # 1 go to the date column and click it to auto arrange by date.#2 go to the date or there abouts. Like ya I remember when that dumb azz from break time told me about something and something on the computer, wasn't that around the first of the year-Oh there it is.
Everyone...let me be totally honest. I am thankful for being able to look at a big wide and deep stairhole ..and design a stairway that will fit perfectly....I love to improvise..and thats what I do a lot on my gyrocopter. BUT......
when it comes to freakin computers...my eyes just glaze over and I just poke around on the key board doing anything to get my pictures stored. I have to literally scroll for five minutes the 2000 some pictures I have...and maybe find the one I want.
So...I just keep building and flying...taking pictures ...storing them in the computer...and just keep adding 1A to the pictures to bump the news ones to the front of the 2000 pictures. I am on nine 1A's now...and am reading to start typing ten of them before the date of the picture.

See how you are. Man would you get mad if bill gates was building stairs.
Fortunately for you he doesn't send a shock to you every time you poke the computer.
And the fact is your just refining your storage system,You just don't know it. Now if I could suggest that the next step(ha ha get it step) is to go to step 2. 2a,2aa.2aaa.2aaa. cept it's just not as musically as fun as 1a1a1a1a1a1a and it does sound like la la la if your eyes are as bad as mine.
Keep em coming and smack our knuckles for bothering your fine filing.
And if your gonna make a mistake make it in filing your pictures and not on topping off the gas tank of the air chene.
That's funny.
I always saw his 1a1a1a1a pic titles and imagined him as he smilingly climbed the sky in his gyro singing 'la-la-la-la-'.
Just a few more updated pictures. The cherry railing is installed...not stained yet. All thats left to do is install the balusters.

Hokey pokey! Man, you'd figure out Picasa in about 4 seconds - it's really, really (really really REALLY) simple, and will totally solve your organization issues. Download it from http://picasa.google.com/, install it, and let it run. It'll do a sweep of your whole computer, and then it'll have all your pictures organized by date. You'll love it.did<!---->Cure Diabetes - Whitefish, Montana, 2007!<!---->

Like I said.....my eyes glaze over when trying to be explained what is probably kindergarten stuff to you guys.
You would not believe the complexity of building and wiring my gyrocopter....that I was interested in and had no problem with. But when it comes to arranging my pictures in my computer...I just freakin done care...and whatever it takes to keep my new pictures to the front of the file...thats what I do. Its been working for me for years....and years from now I will be doing the same thing.
Stan
Diddit is absolutely right. I think I've recommended Picassa to you in the past too. If you can log onto to BT then you can install Picassa, it's that easy. What is really neat is that you can scroll through the pictures so quickly. Try and download it, if you have any problems, I'm sure someone here can assist you.
