That’s what I’m looking for. Basically needed for log newel posts. I need the pilot bit to start the bit at an angle in a hole hawg. It seems everybody knows of them but can’t tell me where to get them or where they got them. TIA

Have you thought of using a hole saw? You could replace the usual 1/4" pilot bit with a longer one. (Aircraft extention bit 6" or 12" even) Start the pilot at desired center location and drill just 1/4" deep perpendicular and THEN pivot to desired angle.
Go slow. That is push slowly. It may tend to grab because only one portion of the hole saw blade will be engaging the wood. With the hole hawg, I use the high speed gear to avoid the torque problem.
Once you've gotten the entire thing (circumference) engaged, then you can chisel out the waste and revert to your Multi-spur bit.
Another option is to just drill thru a piece of scrap and then cut the scrap at the appropriate angle and then clamp that to your workpiece as a guide/jig.
*p m I think that I'm going to go that route. It is really scary with that hole saw grabbing like that and all. If you ever saw the bit work, just nothing else will do. Kind of wish I never heard of the thing. Have probably 30 or so holes to do, log work is over rated! Thanks for the thoughts, Matt
*matt, the irwin drill company makes or made what your'e looking for; i think it is called a model 62R; basically an auger bit with a multi spur collar that slides on the shank. works great for countersinking washers-just use the size that clears your socket, not just the washer.good luck. michael tuck
