I am looking to purchase a ‘multi folding’ ladder. Most likely a 16 footer. Is there any significant differences between the Krause and the Werner? I’m a big guy, I think these ladders are type 1A. I am more concerned with the multi folding hinges on these things not buckling out beneath me.

Ive used the `LiL GIANT' ladder before, which converts between 8' stepladder and 16' extension ladder, very strong, no wobbles or flex like a cheapo unit. I think they cost around $400- but if its what you want... I know they make bigger/longer, and shorter units also.
*Walldog--If you haven't already, get a look at the Krause and Werner units. I'm a big guy too, and I didn't think that the joints were over-engineered enough for me.The Little Giant that Tom mentions is great. I have the Type 1A, 21 footer (21 foot extention, 9 foot, two sided step). It's solid as a rock. Perfect for uneven height situations. It also can be used as a pair of 5 foot stepladders, which are designed to support planks. Not quite the "ginzu knife" of a ladder as the multi-fold types, but more solid. Also heavy.High-priced, but worth it. Wing Enterprises makes the Little Giant, and they're out of Utah.Regards.
*It seems to me that for the high price of those kind of ladder set-ups, you can buy several good fiberglass ladders. I don't have any of those multi-folding ladders, nor do I trust them.Ed. Williams
*I've had the Little Giant folding ladder for abt 6 yrs. I don't need a ladder but 1 or 2x/yr but when I do it fits into the 7' bed of my PU. I've used it at full extension (21 ft I think) and it's plenty strong and solid. I paid abt 400$ at a show, and they threw in a couple of accessories.
*I use a 12' Krause multimatic ladder. Bought it for $100 7 years ago and use it a lot. I'm only 170# it seems strong enough. It's industrial Type III (300#) rated and holds up. I like having a step ladder I can straddle and two can use it at once on opposite sides. As a long ladder and occasionally as a scaffold it's great too. It's not as strong in the scaffold mode but I work with up to three 5 gal buckets of plaster beside myself in that mode too. I know a half-dozen others who have and like 'em too. A while back a friend lost one of the feet on mine. I called Krause and they sent me a new set of feet for free, no shipping, with promo stuff included! Last year, (after 6 years of use)the center joint started jamming. I e-mailed Krause and they said it was a bent release-bar and sent me 4 new bars for me and my buddy, with gimme caps and pens as well! Fixed the problem. Any other company would have fleeced you for the feet, not to mention the repair and new bars....It IS heavy (steel) to lug around, though.
*I have a 16' werner I use it around the house. If I were to do it again I would buy the Little Giant, their hinges are strong, simple and not nearly as prone to problems from dirt damage or binding. You know, "you get what you pay for"
