I just installed a HeatnGlow rear vent fireplace in a new family room addition. I want to install an auxiliary gas heater for the new basement game room beneath the new family room. I would like to install the auxiliary gas heather below the fireplace and run the venting through the family room floor right next to the fire place. I have framed out a six foot wide wall in front of the fireplace so there is room behind the wall and next to the fireplace for a new 6 or 8 inch vent. I would run the new vent passed the point where the fireplace vent goes through the wall which is about 5 feet below the soffit on the exterior. My question is how far apart do the two vents need to be? Both units pull combustible air through the outside section of the vent while the exhaust is vented through the inside section of the vent.

The manufacturers' installation instructions should specify clearances.

Should have what you are looking for at least for the fireplace.
