my bostitch spiker has morning sickness
Bought a new Bostitch F28WW stick nailer back in July. Overall very happy with it – light magnesium body, super easy depth adjustment, 4-stick capacity, smart trigger, good price, wide range of fasteners available.
The past 2 weeks it has developed an odd habit. First thing in the morning it won’t fire, just a hiss of air when the trigger is depressed. Tinkering around with it – removing nails and replacing, disconnecting and reconnecting air, etc, eventually gets it to fire, but I couldn’t really say what is causing the problem. After that first minute or two, it will fire consistely and reliably for the rest of the day. I wondered if the cooler mornings (mid 40s) were contributing, so I switched to winter weight Bostitch oil, but most mornings it still does this. Anyone heard of anything like this? I’d like to solve the problem because this gun is so good in all other respects.

Have you been dumping anything other than air tool oil in the inlet? If not, I'd say it's defective.

I have a different model of Bostitch gun that has done the same thing since it was new. Drives me crazy. I put it on the floor of the truck next to the floor heater and bake it on the way to work. That seems to help a bit.
Mine will not fire if you bump fire it, but if you sneak up on it by holding the safety down and slooowwwlly pull the trigger, it will usually fire the first or second time. After that, it is good all day.
Any chance you're overdoing the oil? Do you have a filter and moisture trap on the compressor discharge?
My finish nailer was doing that until I tore it apart and cleaned it. There was a little crud build up in the cylinder and I suspect that over oiling and dirt were the culprits.
3-4 drops of oil every day of use. Occasionally if the gun is heavily used I might add another couple of drops at lunchtime. Bear in mind it's only a couple of months old.Lignum est bonum.
