It’s me again….
Yet another under-slab leak related question – I am concerned about the boiler being dormant for an extended period and need advise on any precautions before serious rust sets in the boiler heat exchangers.
(It’s a Burnham.)
I shut down the boiler last Friday, nearly a week ago.
Left the pilot light on.
The system probably continued to lose water by gravity since the leak is under the basement slab.
Yesterday I went ahead and turned off the pilot light.
How will the boiler be affected by the system being shut down for several weeks ?
Will some water remain in the boiler itself and I should leave the pilot light on ?
How fast does rust develop inside a boiler ?
Thanks again for your help,
Alan
