You guys may have recalled I asked about buying mountain property a month or so ago. Needless to say it was an experience. After tossing two realtors aside I settled with one guy who really took enjoyment into showing properties I liked or wanted. He even clued me in on how to read the MLS reports which included commissions payable. He cared less of what they paid, and didn’t pay attention to them.
One thing about mountain property is the way it’s listed. I wanted creek property on land that I could walk on. After weeding through 30 or so and actually looking at a dozen, many had descriptions like “gentle, rolling property, lays niceley” Yea right! Most of them we drove up to would have a creek at the bottom of a hill and a 70 degree incline! Six acres as an example where only 1/2 acre was buildable. At the the buildable area nobody could see the creek anyway, unless you wiped out most of the trees. Ridiculous. I’m sure somebody will buy it eventually.
In any event, gorqeous area(Ellijay GA) I finally settled on looking at property with a cabin and a creek. Low and behold I found a fixer upper on 4 acres of the most beautiful setting I’ve seen. 2 acres on flat land bordered by a 600 foot long noisy creek. The other two is hilly but I can probably sell it off or hang on to it.

Hey there Hardwood,
Man, I wish I'd seen your earlier post. Got some land here in WNC with two creeks, waterfalls, and a cabin. Glad you found your piece of heaven on earth. Also looking to speculate about 17 acres near here with a small creek and a few building lots.

Yea, now I want to quit my job and live in the mountains..LOL. I considered NC, but the winters scared me a bit. This area is so laid back and gorgeous except for a new shopping area in town where Wal Mart stripped apart the mountainside. Where was the planning commsision on that one I wonder?
You might be interested in the views expressed in this thread. Apparently it is their right to strip the mountainside.http://forums.taunton.com/tp-breaktime/messages?msg=74044.36Awesome land BTW. Good luck.
Peaceful? Yes. I did find a great realtor. He warned me about a few properties. One guy didn't mention a thing about some river front property I looked at. Hurricane Ivan had it under 6 feet of water. No wonder why there was still trash stuck in the trees across the river. Somebody told me there was still an RV stuck somehere, but I never did see it.
ZYou cazn call that a cabin if ya want to but thats a nice house where I live.
Tim
ha yeah, I was thinking the same thing.
Must be the logs and the proximity of the trees that gives it that designation.

Great buy! Nice clean stream and yeah......a bit more than a cabin maybe.
NOW........you have to invite all of us good folk who visited the pics for a weekend visit for work/relaxation!!!!! You must need something done.

What an idea! But I need to lose some pounds. I was in pretty good shape when I installed hardwood floors, but I've been sitting behind a desk for three years now. I'd like to add a master bedroom to the place and enlarge the deck area, but that won't happen until next spring.
I stayed at this cabin for the week and it gave me some ideas. These folks really know what they're doing. Outstanding setting.
Any clues on what kind of bug?
Looks like click beetles, doing the deed.
Not like any creature that I've ever seen in Nova Scotia.
Nice house and property. I hope you enjoy it.
I wouldn't worry too much about being overweight/ out-of-shape.
Since I started doing mostly finish work, I've gained a few. And I notice that stairs give me a good workout.
I have plans on getting back into shape, but my laziness is interfering.
Any clues on what kind of bug?
Pretty sure that's a North Georgia Twoheaded Noass. More or less a harmless critter.
Around these parts (NYC) we are infested with the very dangerous Twoassed Nobrain.

We call them spring beetles. That one is an eyed click beetle. They wont hurt you. If they get in the house you will hear them clicking and popping if they get rolled over on their back.
"Do you have a larger version of pic 7?"
Yes. Send me mail and I'll forward it.
Pics inside? Yes. Btw, it came furnished, but some stuff is worn out. Neighbors? Jed Clampett lives down the hill..hehe. I should have taken some pics of his spread. Closest neighbor is probably a 3 iron shot through the woods, but it's seasonal...nice place. I'm itching to go up there in a few weeks and may do so...I'm not crazy about working thesedays.
Somebody put a crappy addition on it recently...really makes it look bad. I plan to rip it out and add the MB and larger deck. I don't like the pot belly stove(needs fireplace) and it needs larger windows. Notice the steps were never completed?
Hey Hard_Guy:
Check the manufacturer's clearances to combustibles on the wood stove. Doesn't look good to me from way up here!!
NCtim, Ive been building right off Old Fort Rd. Are you out that way? Been around here for 12 years; building mostly in Fairview. Bobby
Bobby, then you know Reeds Creek Rd, and Rosebud Lane?
I know Reeds Creek. Rosebud, I would have to find. Ive been building in a little subdivision on Wittaker Rd.for the last three years, its about 18 minutes from Asheville proper.
Getting ready to start a house in the city.
Where are you?Bobby
Our house is in Sondley, but last May we bought a few acres on Rosebud (it's a gravel road about 1/2 mile off 74 on Reeds Creek) and then sold it in November. Were planning to build something there, but priorities changed, and land prices escalated so fast that it made sense to sell it that soon even considering realtor fees and taxes. Quite the active area. About 400 acres along 74 right by there are gonna be developed into Asheville's version of McMansions, from what I hear. Just as happy to be avoiding all that growth.
Yeah, Fairview has change considerably in the last 10-12 years. Traffic will be an issue once they develop "South Cliff". I believe its just the begining. Im sure you are aware of the Zoning debate. Do you live in a Dome house? Bobby
Yeah, only I don't call it a dome. Sculpted concrete. :) Haven't driven into Fairview since selling the property...they are definitely gonna have growth issues down there. It'll be interesting to see it in 5 and then 10 years.
...only I don't call it a dome...
be ha ha ho ho hee heeStop it cloud, yer crackin' me up!

I saw you had Cloud Hidden up for sale. Any takers? That 400 acres you mentioned, is that the one where they ran the sewer to at the top of Mine Hole Gap? My wife and I like to refer to them as "Starter Castles."NCtim
Shhh, that's not widely known here...well, until now, I guess. We're working the process. I'll say something when the deed (bad pun) is done.I don't think the 400 acres is what you mention. It's along 74 just north of the Fairview Animal Hospital on the other side. It hadn't started the last I knew, but that was 6 months ago.
They got some machinery in there thinning the trees. I drive by everyday. Called the Develper, thought I may get some details. Not saying much at this point.
Hey Bobby,I'm over on Sugar Hollow. Been out of the biz for about 10 years now. I just do stuff for friends, family, or things that look interesting.Fairview's a great area. I remember when there was nothing in Fairview but a post office, three gas stations, a burger joint and Tickle's general store at the corner of Cane Creek. Oh, and a beauty shop.Things sure have changed in the thirty years.
....looks very peaceful, I hope you get it

'Wer ist jetzt der Idiot?'
Good job, Ken. Very pretty. Beautiful stream!!!
Great pictures, glad you got what you wanted. Don't sell the hilly 2 acres, keep them.
When you catch a few fish from your creek, takes some pics and post em.
mike
Man that's living. Good on ya.
Party your Tipi off! Aug 18th,19th &20th Ask for details.
Don't sell the extra 2 you're at a bare minimum already.....remember the winter and the leafless trees.........but maybe the trees don't shed in GA?
Blind allegiance FOR ANY REASON is the greatest ignorance we can bestow upon ourselves.
In 1980 when I was at UGA I had some friends from that area. I went to visit a couple of times and really liked it. I'm sure you'll be very happy with your purchase!
Wooooweeee, looks like tick, mosquito, and chigger country! :) All of which are easier to deal with than neighbors living too close. Hold on to that extra ground if it pushes potential neighbors further away. And if the budget can handle it, get some more. I think my perfect setting would be about 100 acres (or more) with my house right smack dab in the middle of it. Don't get me wrong, I like people... I just don't like hearing their dogs barking 24 hrs a day... or their 20hp lawn mower at 8AM on a Sunday...although I don't think you'll have that particular problem where you're at.
But seriously, it looks like you found a really neat piece of ground. Do you have a larger version of pic 7? That looks good enough to go into the computer-wallpaper folder.
Are we going to get to see the interior? And what's the view from one of those rocking chairs?
