The other white meat.
My batteries died, Interior tomorrow.
Nice looking little place, abd thanks for jogging my memory and providing a pic of something I would like to ask about.
Doodabug's pic oo2 reminded me of a question I have.
Look at the foundation blocks in the pic. A faceted or fluted Cinder or Concrete block , real common all across the country yrs. ago.
Does anybody know the correct name for them? Are they still available?
I have a freind who just bought a farm near here and some of the outbuildings are constructed out of those blocks. He wants to add more buildings and wants to keep the period look.
Thanks
Some HO on the forum found an old press and has made some for his own house. Don't knoow if they are the same pattern or not.It might have been Pino, but I am not sure..
.
A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
Thanks Bill.
Pretty sure you are correct.[email protected]
The blocks look like what my grandad built the entire farmhouse with. They were made in a form.My Grandad and the hired man built a 2 story house block by block with them. The house was torn down after 90 years and I have one of the blocks. I've never weighed it, but am guessing 60#. 10"x 19" and the hollow is only 3.5x13, so lot of concrete.Pete

Google for "split face" or "rustic" or "decorative" "block" and/or "CMU"Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)
capn,
Thanks, I know they are not what is called "split face" here, but I haven't tried the other two.
but I haven't tried the other two.
You might start by looking for CMU suppliers (which might want both a "CMU Supplier" and a "Concrete Masonry Unit Supplier") search. There will, usually, be a shapes page, showing stock and decorative block.Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)
Casting these decorative concrete blocks was a big fad early in the 20th Century. I guess they'd be called "Ornamental" concrete blocks as a whole. The ones molded to look like quarried stone are usually called "Rusticated."Sears sold a molding machine called "The Wizard" and I've sometimes heard these blocks called "Wizard blocks."Follow this link for a terrific article about these blocks:

Doug.
Thank You , that is exactly the info I was looking for .
Now I can start to search here and see if any one still makes the blocks.
That had to have been a real market at one time. I don't think I have been in any small town across the country that did not have at least one building built out of those blocks.

What a let down!
Normally you post the coolest little things, that is fullsize and just work!
Come on now. It's all work. Junkiest house in a fair nieghborhood. Be a nice low income place for somebody when done.
Nice deck.
Which one? The concrete one in back has a block foundation and anchor bolts for an addition that never happened. Just going to put a handrail around it. The one in front is all rotted. That door goes into bedroom. Tearout that and will make smaller.
LOVE the attic access door at the gable. ;-)

Not sure, might leave it.
Whats with the funky little shed attached to the house?
Why do they slope it so small at the back? You couldn;t get anything in there.

I believe that is a shed roof entry to an outside staircase that accesses the basement.
Correct.
That is the access to basement. Tenant will have to use that if they want to use a washer and dryer. There will be washer/dryer hook-ups.
These are int. pictures.
Well your gonna need some cabinets in that kitchen but otherwise it doesnt look all that bad.

Don't mean to mislead. I am just guy in charge of job, not the investor.
I am in sort of semi-retirement, work when I want and as hard I want and don't have to deal with anybody.
