lotsa rain in the past couple of months, water was intermittenly coming out muddy. mostly good enough to make coffee with it
other day the pressure was down. this morning I was taking a shower and DW flushed a toilet, pressure drop was bad
now the well pump quits working altogether until I shut off the breaker (which was not tripped) and turn back on. the pump runs for a minute with ok pressure then quits again. I can repeat the breaker trick but it is short lived.
FWIW, before I had it fracked some years ago I had a unit installed on the well control that shuts down the pump when it senses no water then resets after one hour. I’m guessing it works by sensing a spike in rpm
I had similar trouble in another house years ago and If I recall correctly the well guy said the excess rain probably released a mud plug somewhere and after it cleared out there was no longer an issue

Your well and pump aren't the problem; you need a better-trained DW....
Sorry; couldn't resist. But as I dunno the real answer, here's a bump for ya....

Is there a possibility the low water sensor is malfunctioning ?
Jet or submersible?
Either way, I'd pull the pipe (easy for me to say and do, maybe not for your situation?) and see if the screen is caked with mud or other sediment.
Clean and re-install.
In 40 years on a well, I've twice lost head with a jet pump as the bronze screen deteriorated and a large grain of sand got stuck in the foot valve.
The screen may have clogged from a cave in. Call a well driller or possibly a plumber to blow out the well. They use a large compressor to blow out soil and debris from around the screen.

maverick,
Certainly no expert but ,
When my well acted that way it was a water logged tank , easy to remedy .
If your tank is the older type ,to test for water log , turn hose on at the pump head with no other water running and count ,, less then 45 seconds to minute I was told is an indication especially if the well pump kicks on almost immediately.
Also if a pressure box is used look for a rather smallish nipple or pipe between the well and pressure switch if you have one , this area can become clogged with muck .

Do you filter it? If so the mud might have clogged it, which would cause one fixture to affect others. This is a symptom that I always watch for...it's my cue to change the filter.
Scott.
yeah its filtered. I did change the filter first but to no avail.
today it seems the mud has cleared out and things are back to normal
