thought I might share this,
A good friend and Ex-Partner works in New Jersey much of the time. Just like we did when we were Partners. One of the shops he installs for sent him to a Seminar today about Contractor Registration.
Some of the things he told me on the phone tonight stood out.
They intend to Register every trade from Drywaller to Plumber and anything inbetween. Supposedly if you don’t have a registration number by January 1 2006 and you get caught it’s a $10,000.00 fine. Sounds ok. Everyone has to get insurance and a Tax number and register as a business. Maybe level the playing field. I’m all for that
Now the good part. The guy running the seminar told them that they had recieved 15,000 applications so far. They have seven employees and have no idea how they will keep up with the flow of applications. They have no idea how they are going to ispect or enforce. They don’t even know if they will be able to process the applications by January 1 2006. All allegedly said with a look of frustration and concern.
My friends plan is to send his application certified mail and keep a copy of the cashed check.
Only in New Jersey. Good luck guys.

i sent my application to the state with the $90.00 + check in november
STILL NO RESPONSE FROM THEM !!
Well,
It is new Jersey. They have your check. No need for them to rush now. You'll probably get your number just in time for them to raise the fee.
Me too, check not cashed yet!
