I am relatively new to the group – I apologize if this has been covered or is common sense…
I am renovating an old (circa 1860-70) home. I have gutted all the lath and plaster – and removed more blown in insulation then i thought possible. Although the structure is “clean” – there is more dust floating around then a “normal” new construction home site.
My problem is that my no-name brand nailgun keeps jamming. Although my first instinct was to blame the fact that it didnt buy the Bostic or Paslode – the more i looked at the problem it appears that the slide is getting gummed up with all the dirt and dust floating through the air. I realized that if I need to wear a mask due to dust and dirt – the gun will probably be affected as well. The gun works fine when things have settled.
I am currently cleaning the slide with whatever rag i can find and spraying liberal amount of wd-40 into it every 50 or so sticks of nails.
has anyone else had this problem? does anyone have a better solution?

"gun works fine when everything settles down".... time to pull a cleanup, couple shop vacs, be thorough get reversible vac and send junk over to one wall for pickup if possible
too much oil and not right kind wipe & clean gun out use a gun oil, 2-3 drops at start day, same midday i'd suspect a fastener problem for that frequency, suggest a change, but u say it happens only when dust kicks up..... might pay off to grab a few coils of different brand nails, see if react better to dirty environment in that particular gun
I'd most certainly call the company and speak with them.
What kinda gun did you say it was????????
My house is a 1680 house and I had no trouble with my guns plaster and alllllll.
Dust?????????/ You wanna talk dust? LOL
Call the company.

A tip for whoever might use it . . .
In the last month, my finish gun has been acting a little funny. Made me mad. It's a Senco, and not even a decade old. Double firing on occasion, seems to need more air to sink, and the slide was getting awful hard to pull back. Duh. I've never cleaned it. Like, NEVER. I grabbed a can of Break Free (gun cleaner) and hosed it down, the used the air nozzle to spray off the excess and wiped it with a paper towel. Durn if it doesn't run as good as new. Amazing stuff. Just melted away everything. Remided me of how some guys carried an aerosol can of carb cleaner in their rucks - hose the M16 down with it and it incinerated all the gunk in an instant. 'Cept that breakfree is meant to go on guns, ok, a different type, but hey, it worked.

I think the wd40 is the problem. Clean the slide with a degreaser and coat it with a dry lubricant so the dust will not stick to it. I use topcoat or silicone.
You are obviously very new to this forum if you can post something like this with a straight face: or is common sense... Common sense is not part of this industry.

thanks for the help and the welcome. I was beging to think that the wd-40 was gumming up the slide. I appreciate the help!
Paslode makes a spray nail gun cleaner. I use it on my guns regularly and am always amazed at the crap that comes out of them.
thanks! i am heading out this afternoon to try to find it.
