Jeff, as a general guide, the length of the nail should be aprox. three times the thickness of the material you are attaching. I have gunned a lot of 1×6 cedar T&G for patio ceilings using 2 1/2″ senco ss finish nails with great results and no dents!

It's for an exterior skirt wrapped around base of house approx. 40" in height. It will be nailed into 2x4's on the flat at the top, center, and bottom. Is there any advantage to blind nailing in the wedge between the tongue and face or to face nail?
Thanks, Jeff

What size SS nail should I use to attach T&G 1x6 cedar to 2x materials?
Is it a good idea to predrill and what size drill bit for the recommended size nail? Also if using a nail gun, do you use the same size nail as with hand nailing? How deep should the nail penetrate the 2x material?
Thanks, Jeff
*Face nailing, or blind nailing. What is the application? Is this going overtop of sheathing?I'll assume since your using SS nails that this is exterior.
