tom,
having spent much quality time on the island over the years, i can say the c.o.l. is very high ?(it being an isolated, touristy island, everything you need to live has to be shipped in at exorbitant prices). prepare to pay lots for food, gas, beer, etc. but i've found the priciest necessity on nantucket is housing, so if that's already paid for, you should make out quite nicely. as for the prevailing wage, $25 seems low, but i've not been there in three years, so i could be wrong.
said and done, there are many worse places to spend a summer (less, of course, you like blackflies and humidity).
eagerly anticipating another inland new england summer,
sean.

Hi Tom,
I live on Marthas Vineyard island right next door to Nantucket. Everything on the island costs about 25% more than on the mainland, so I charge my customers accordingly. Sean was correct about the housing situation on the islands, especially in the summer. If your housing is included $25.00 per hour is probably not too bad a deal.Right now there is a huge shortage of skilled carpenters on both islands (and the rest of the world) so tell the guy to make it $30.00 and you'll be right over.Good luck... Scott
*Nice place to spend the summer. Except for those flies, fleas, etc. Any concern you might get a bit ... bored? I always liked visiting Nantucket and the Vineyard in the dead of winter...
