Tom, recent article in the Boston Globe featured the Nan't building boom. Off season rents for a house: $1500/month with a dozen guys camped out... or $60/day to fly on and off island to accomodations on the Cape.
Pay? Seems most guys I talked to on the Cape are getting $15 to $30, with a promise for more if things are really moving. Yet More, if you can walk on water, work without materials, have good weather juju, etc...

Tom,
Competent finish carpenters are making a minimum of $25 to $35 an hour with the arrangements you described. If you are paying for airfare and do not need the work that bad I would ask for $30 to start and move upwards from there. It's a different world working on the island and you can't sell yourself short.

Hard to believe I saw this post. Im thinking of heading out there myself for the season. I live in NY and know a builder and some other people out there so Id have a place to stay but probably wouldnt make that much because I wouldnt sub. Just hop on a framing crew for the summer. Your wage sounds about right for being a sub, but youd make that most anywhere being a sub I think. The wages out there arnt much different than anywhere else. Dont believe the hype. Just because its a beautiful island doesnt mean youd make any more. You might end up making a little more, but the cost of living is a little more. Its all relevant.
