Adding on to the house shortly and want to include a zero clearance unit. I`m looking for advice from those who`ve spec`d or installed a few. Any recomendations? Brands? Sizes? Any info much apreciated.

You need to see the units with fire. I was amazed at the difference in the look of the flames. Heatalator (sp) had the most realistic looking fire (this was 3 years ago). Several of the fire places you could barely see the flame. The heatalator had blue and orange flame. A lot of the others just had a blue flame. You should also look at the log sets. Some look real and some look like chunks of textured concrete. I remember one manufacture had the gas delivered to pan that the logs sat on. You put sand on the pan and then poked holes in the sand to generate the flame pattern. Several manufactures also offer different brick patterns for the fire box (majestic, heat-n-glo, etc). Gives the fire place a more custom look.
