I know don’t we all. Got a call Saturday to look at fixing a storm door that was installed by someone else. When I got there I was told by the owner they he purchased the storm door from Lowes and had a guy who saw it done on TV install it. So the guy read the directions and followed them exactly. All in all he did an ok job. Its tight at the top of the door frame like the directions told him, but that leave the bottom 3 inches up so the storm door sweep does not touch the threshold. My immediate thought is to take the door out move it down so that the sweep touches then fill in the top. I am starting this at 9 am tomorrow and its going to be in the 20’s so I want a good plan of attach when I show up.

that's what she said....
is this a 7' opening????
if not there is a U shaped piece that fits to the bottom of the storm and moves to fill the opening......

I was in a hurry and didn't measure wife was in the car. I know it was dumb. but i would say the opening where the stom door fits is over 7' the U shaped piece has the sweep attached. when its on the bottom of the door as far out as it can go its still 3 inches short. Hope this makes sense.
yup....
time to measure and find a door that fits...
or have a piece made to fit...

Thats what I was thinking just wanted to make sure I was not missing something easy. I figure they never measured the opening before ordering the door. Nothing is standard on this houes I have done some work there before its well over 100 yr old. thanks for your help.
Does the storm come with a frame? If so, lowering it will look like carp. If not then lowering the door may be the best approach, to put the handle at the right height. If it's an AL storm a u-shaped filler can be fashioned by someone with a brake. For a wood storm a wood filler would be better.
If your view never changes you're following the wrong leader
I figure they never measured the opening before ordering the door.
And neither did you?
Is there a shortage of tape measures in that neck of the woods?

I would havew chocked, BUT 3" damn
I know I know. but all those little lines confuse me ;)
Larson does make several lines in custom sizes. Since this is already installed ( shame on the yahoo who went ahead with it instead of telling them to exchange for one that fits) the best thing is probably what Dan said about having a new U shaped slip bottom made up. The existing door has one on it that is made to be adjustable to cover as much as 2-1/4" if my memory is right. You can take it off for a pattern to the SM shop.Even possible that he never adjusted it down or added the EPDM flap. That might almost give you the 3"...

Yeah, sounds like there's a piece missing, if this is a standard size door opening.
Is the storm's frame short too?
Need 3 more inches.

Man, move it to the Tavern!
You need a custom storm door.
