I need some input from you hvac types out there.
I have a central A/C unit that has not operated for several years. The refrigerant leaked out and I never did anything about it. It was installed about 15 years ago and is a common type compressor unit hooked into a forced-air system with a gas furnace. No leading-edge technology like scroll compressors or heat pumps. This year I am going to have it worked over.
I am asking for opinions on just repairing the leak and doing a refill or going with a new compressor. I haven’t even asked the guy we are talking to if there will be a problem with refrigerant compatibility.
