I just looked at a log home that the almish built to bid on some finish work and they rough framed the windows 4 to 6 inches to much on each side of the windows. there are big gaps on the right and left side of the windows. now she wants the windows trimmed out and I am racking my brain on different ways I could trim these windows out. She wants some sort of casing to match the windows and interior doors and base. any comments welcome. She said that the almish that built her house do not do the trim work. no wonder!

If you could post a pic of the situation, I'm sure it would generate ideas that would work. Without that, could you wrap the gap then extend the jambs and trim with a casing that would complement the rest of the trim? Stain the wrap to match the logs, and then paint/stain the casing to match the other trim. Best of luck.
*I am fairly certain that the logcabin builders are more correctly identified as Amish, not almish.
*sorry for the spelling if that really bothered you. I am not to concerned with the spelling of Amish. I am concerned with the job I am asking about.
*thank you for your input calvin I will play with that Idea and see where I end up thanks for you time. Tim
*the first thing I'd do is contact the framer and ask him what he had in mind when he left such a large gap. I wouldn't use normal casing but create something rustic (even a split log) or 1x6 with the uprights being overlaped (by 1") at top and bottom. The last thing you want to do is make it look like you had to cover a goof. A custom design factor covering a goof is ok
*Flared jamb extensions?Ron
*Flared jamb extensions sound like a good option, as long as there's room for them. With or without split log casing, depending on the rest of your interior trim. Might even bring a little more daylight inside.MM
*I thank you all for you help. I really appreciate it you have some good Ideas. thanks Tim
*Flaired extensions, great idea. Somebody was thinking.
