The concrete contractor we hire uses Form-A-Drain almost exclusively. We think a lot of it. It puts the drain system down below the level of the basement floor, which makes good sense to me. Some contractors just throw black drain tile in before they backfill.
I'm not familiar with "Hydro-Guard ".
*Ron glad you like the form a drain I haven't used it yet but I am very eager to. How does it hold up during /after the pour? Does it get smashed up pretty easy ? I've also seen that form a drain will help get rid of radon problems if vented properly. Might be good insurance where radon gas is a problem. Beats putting in a vent system after the house is built.
*Mike - I asked around, and got no reports of Form-A-Drain breaking before or after pouring footings. I don't know anything about the radon/venting thing.

I was just reading an article about waterproofing basements and they mentioned that slotted pipes clog easier than pipes with round holes now of course Form-A-Drain has slots. Has anyone also noticed this.
Hydro-Guard is a dimpled plastic wrap used on below grade walls to waterproof them.
*Several builders in my area have been using form-a-drain with excellent results. if you buy the stakes and braces that are designed to go with it and also the appropriate fittings you should have excellent results. However it is somewhat expensive (about a dollar a foot plus accessories in our area ) that you need to factor in the labor savings and othe convience factors to decide if it is right for you, in regard to the clogiing issue I have not heard of any problems and my personal opinion is that it should clog less because it has narrower but longer holes than conventional pipe. In any event if you backfilling with the appropriate granular material it should not be a problem.
