Hey everyone, it’s been a while since I’ve cleaned or treated a redwood deck, and now I find myself getting ready to help a friend do both. I seem to remember using a “Deckswood” product to clean the surface, then letting it dry thoroughly before applying an oil sealer called “Sunfrog” – a product which, at the time, was heavily endorsed by my paint store for it’s “advanced UV protection”. Unfortunately, I cannot remember where I used the stuff, and never had occassion to follow up on it’s performance.
Does anyone know if Sunfrog is still being made? Or, What would be a good product to seal and protect a redwood deck in northern CA? The wood has never been treated and it still has a nice goldish red color to it, but it’s weathered for almost a year now and we’d like to get it protected from both sun and rain. I like the “oil every year or two” maintainance plan, and I don’t like Thompson’s plastic shell approach.
Oh, yeah, I’d also like to hear someone’s thoughts on thinning the first one or two coats to promote deeper penetration. Thanks, saul
