We are going to be building soon and are
going to be pouring cement walls they call this slipforming if I have my information correct and was wondering if anyone has any information on this technique that I could pass on to my husband?

I will be interested to read these posts as well. I don't see an advantage to slip forming unless you are doing a very tall building and need a continuous pour for strength. I have heard that they poured the big grain silos in the Port of Tacoma that way, but have never done it, or heard anyone say they worked on that type of pour. - yb

Dino:
First- cement is a fine, grey powder-very difficult to "pour"
Second- why would you want to slip form walls?
*Davo, we are building a log home. Basement walls are 9' high, with 4 or 5' buried. Perimeter 30' X 30". The slipforming technique that we are vaguely familiar with involves building a set of forms a couple feet high, filling in with concrete and rocks then setting another set of forms on top, filling those, and moving the bottom set to the top of the second set, or something like that. Lack details, what to do and what not to do.

Hi Blue,
Thanks for the laugh.

*heres a detail Dino: Don't do it!Blue
*Dino.....Mostly slip forming is used in commerial work. In that coloums make up most of that. As you described above is a pretty good describion of how its done. For a 9 ft. wall I don't see why you would use a slip form. Slip forms reguire more labor and materials. In walls on commerial work tip ups have replaced slip forms. You still find slip forms where wall strenght is a problem. If your contractor uses slip forms then he'll have to patch the walls to cover up the holes left from she-bolts.
