Source control, ventilation, and filtration are the keys to healthy indoor air quality. Dehumidification is important too.

Copper has been used as a wood treatment for quite a while. The old pressure treated lumber contained arsenic as well as copper. It was CCA for chromated copper arsenate. The newer types are ACQ for alkaline copper quaternary or CA for copper azole. Some go under name brands like Naturewood.
The newer lumber requires hot dipped galvanized fasteners or stainless steel. Electro coated and aluminum won't last. There is still some debate about whether the new products are any friendlier to the environment. I wouldn't worry about it giving you a shock unless it was wet.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
hexy....
do you mean the tree leaches the copper out of the soil and it becomes part of the wood ?
it sounds similar to cypress, which actually leaches fine silica sand out of the soil and it mixes in with the cellular structure of the wood.
your example sounds a lot like Ironwood.. which i think is a brazilian species
