Listeners write in about haunted pipes and building-science tomes, and they ask questions about roof venting and roof leaks.

I'm from Woodstock,NY, and there are several engineers locally. Why don't you just pick up a phone book?

Because there's no way to know if you're getting someone good or horrible. The reason for a referral section like this is to help you get people that previous clients were happy with. If this was in LA, I would recommend a guy.

Anywhere near Byrdcliff?It's not who's right, it's who's left ~ http://CLIFFORDRENOVATIONS.COM
Not far from Byrdcliffe at all. Have you ever had the tour of White Pines? Quite a place, and now on the national register of historic places. I have also done restoration work on some of the outbuildings including The Big Barn.
BTW, did you know this is the centenial of the founding of Byrdcliffe? Lots of stuff going on.
many years ago pre concert days I lived in Woodstock in West Saugerties.up the road from The Big Pink....I worked up on Byrdcliff doing minor repairs and lite landscape kinda things for the Zimmermans...as in Sara and Bob
Might just look up the Woodstock Times and go check it out. thanks.
Be well

I've called three different engineers and so far no return phone calls. It must be really busy around here. What do you do if I am not imposing...

I am a cabinet/furniture maker. Have you tried Michael North?
I haven't tried Michael North, is he at Goat Hill Rd in Saugerties?
Do you have a workshop or studio for your furniture?

He lives on Goat Hill, but I think he has an office in Kingston. I think it's North&Ass., but I may be off on that.
I work out of a shop, no room for a showroom, but 99% of my work is on commision or through general contractors and architects. I occasionally build pieces on spec, but only when I'm slow, which is rare. I put them in a couple local galleries on a commision basis.
Thanks for the tip, I called and left a message. Do you know anything about Praetorius & Conrad in Saugerties? They told me to call an architect....and that seems like adding an unnecessary middle man to me...

The name Preatorius is familiar, but I don't know him. I have seen an ad for them, though.
I told Michael North that you referred him. What is the name of your company?

My company is Heinlein Woodworks. I met MN back in the late 70's when I was doing masonry work with my brother, Tom. At the time, I believe MN was either running or setting up a sawmill out there on Goat Hill Rd.(I may be wrong on the location). This was a while before he became an engineer, but I later ran into him on a couple houses I worked on with an outfit named Mitre Const.,Ltd. This was in the mid 90's.
I don't know any PE's in your neighborhood, but when you find one (or more) you can check license status here: http://www.op.nysed.gov/opsearches.htm Under Profession, pick "Professional Engineer". Happy hunting.
