I have a house that I built in the early 80’s when 24″o.c. was popular. Now I want to reside and make it ready for my retirement years. The framing is 2×6 24″o.c. with 1″ of ridget insulation, ontop of that is 5/8th T 1-11. The T 1-11 has a belly and I want to reside it with a 4′-5′ band of brick on a streel ledge follwing that with a concrete siding (hardiplank). I would also like to use a house wrap.
What to do? Is there a problem leaving the T1-11 on? Should I at the very least use a 1/2″ ferring strip to raise the siding over the bellied T1-11. Or can the Hardiplak span 24″o.c. I hope I have enough information here.

This is just one opinion but I would furr and create a rainscreen wall with it and the new siding.

Hey Piff, while we`re on rainscreens...Im in the midst of an addition on my own home. The existing siding is that lovely asbestos shingle....much as I love the stuff(you smell sarcasm?) Im going to re-side entire house along with addition. Im thinking of using the Hardi-plank cement clapboards. Ive never worked with it in the past. (Like testing "new" products on my own home) Ive read some of manufacturers specs and all, but they dont mention building a rainsheild. You know of any reason why this might be detrimental? I cant think of any myself. So long as my furring doesnt exceed manufacterers specified spans, I think I`ll be fine. What are your thoughts?J. D. Reynolds

"DO IT RIGHT, DO IT ONCE"
I don't think that Hardiplank is rated for 24" centers. I think I'd leave the T1-11 on the house to help hide some of the bows in the walls.
But can a House wrap be put on over the T1-11
Yes if you sandwich it between two layers of 30# felt and vent it at the top and bottom and make sure you don't use sheetrock screws.
Also keep the cows and rabbits away from the eaves untill the gutters are installed.
Mr TDo not try this at home!
