Hey you all, again thanks in advance for your help. I live in Atlanta Ga and have a two part question.
1. One of my rental properties will not cool below 80 deg in the daytime( outside temp around 100). My HVAC man told me that this was normal. He said in GA A/C units are only supposed to perform adequately up to 90 deg. Is this correct?
2. On another rental a different HVAC man (but a partner to the one above) installed a new 13 seer (sp?) compressor. He did not change the coil in the interior unit. He said that if it wasn’t feezing up then it would work ok. He ran a large return line from the interior unit (bringing the warm freon back outside) but it still conects to the original unit with a slightly smaller (and original) line for about 3 inches where it connect to the coils. This house also does not seem to cool below 80 deg when the outside temp was about 95. Does any of this sound ok? Do I need to install a larger set of cooling coils? Do I need to find a new a/c man? Thanks.

This is what happens when people shop for the lowest price.
While it is possible (but not suggested), you *can* connect a new 13 SEER indoor coil to a existing 10 SEER condenser... you *can't* connect a 13 SEER condenser to a 10 SEER indoor coil.
The 10 SEER coil doesn't have enough area to properly boil off the refrigerant before it gets sent back to the condenser. The only way to *make* it work is to short the charge so no liquid goes to the compressor- this reduces the capacity of the unit.
Lots of luck.

I live in Omaha. It's been > 93* with high humidity for almost 6 weeks. My AC keeps the house 69* with no problem.
