Anybody use the new Aura paint from Benjamin Moore? It’s over $50/gallon so I think the demand may be limited. They’re talking it up at my paint store so I decided to give it a try.
One of the main advantages that they’re pushing is coverage. And for dark colors, it really works. Reds are notorious for multiple coats, but with this stuff, 2 coats should be plenty. I painted red over existing red and 1 coat was plenty. Another advantage is flow. The stuff flows off the brush better than any paint I’ve used before. I can cut a line at least twice as far as before.
There are downsides (besides price) so I won’t be using it all the time. It dries so fast that brush marks are really hard to avoid. I wouldn’t use it for trim. In fact, I may avoid using the satin finish (their highest sheen) if there are areas too small for a roller. And speaking of rollers, I found that it worked best with 1/4″ nap roller cover. I usually buy 3/8″ roller covers in a 6-pack to save money (I don’t re-use roller covers) so there will be a slight cost increase just buying roller covers.
Anyway, I just thought I’d share my experience. These paints are supposed to be a lot more washable with less pigment pick-up. If I get chance to go back to the house where I used it, I’m going to test that feature too.

Last week I went to a lunch workshop put on by Titan sprayers...they said they can't spray Aura yet. Even with additives is was prone to clogging and spitting. The sales guy recommended NOT buying a sprayer if you planned on doing alot of work with Aura.
And that's my only experience with Aura so far.

I don't know why, but I was expecting the B M to stand for something other than benjamin moore and I had imagined some new age paint that had the mysterious power to put you in the mood for the morning smash that would then be applied to the walls in the bathroom.
I just had to share that mental image, and was wondering if anyone else had a similar perspective, or if it was intended as a clever play on words. Either way I enjoyed it, thank you.

No, I can't say that I ever had...
Methinks your mind is in the toilet.
my mind is frequently in the toilet, this is true, as well as the septic systems, drains from, and supply lines to the toilet.
as a matter of fact i am all about the toilet.

Well, I really hadn't intended a pun. Now, if I had said "the new BM doesn't smell so good"...
It sounds a lot like SW Duration - except that I don't have drying issues with Duration - I love the stuff.
Yes, it's pricey, but I am never going to do over this house, once I get it done this time, & the coverage & durability are so great they cancel out the pain of having to re-do in a couple of years...
