Have what seems like simple question..how to clean sheetrock dust/general new home construction dust from walls, floors, cabinets…etc…? Should we try and vaccum up? Use a damp rag? Or just wipe from walls with dry rag and then vaccum up? Like I said seems simple, but could create more of a mess by choosing wrong method. Any and all opinions appreciated!

Hey Bob. I have good luck on delicate items (cabinets & such) with a very fine vac attachment brush. I can get most anything clean with it. Otherwise a damp cloth or rag works well.
When we finish a new house, just prior to carpet & all the finals, I could spend a full day just using the vac on everything in the house. Kinda fun, put the earplugs in and letter rip.

"I could spend a full day just using the vac on everything in the house. Kinda fun"You have an unusual idea of fun!!!
If there isn't too much dust, a damp rag might work, but if there's a lot, it will tend to make a slurry and just spread it around. I'd try vacuuming even the walls (with brush attachment) then use damp rag last.
Use a shopvac with a fine dust filter & fine dust bag. You'll ruin the vacuum motor and blow dust around the room if you don't.

I don't know if this is a HO already moved in or a builder preping the house for the CO, but I start with blowing the dust around. I open windows ana doors, and set up my air scrubber in th eroom or a central area. Then I use the blower port on the vac with a narrowed down tip on th ehose. The high pressure air jet that comes out will knock the dust loose from walls, cielings, tops of casings, etc. woiithouit scratching any thing. The air scrubber and open windows takes care of about 85% of it, and half an hour later, most of the rest is on the floor where a damp mop can take care of it.If I just try to vac the dust off the walls, I always miss some and it shows in various lights, and if there is a single chip in the bristles of the vac head, it can scratch the fresh paint. The blower does it in no-touch fashion.
