All,
thank you in advance for you comments.
the new house will have a lot of decking (wife wants it but i get to maintain it) so i want very minimal maintaince. We currently have cedar (love the look but hate the work) and don’t want to go there again. anyone with experience/heard about the new decking material (i forget the name) but i think it is made of some type of plastic, resin, mix? is it really no maintenance? what about costs? any feed back is appreciated. thank you

There used to be two or three choices, now there are so many that I doubt if any one person has enough experience to make a reasonable decision. I definitely think that a man made product is a wise choice, but I live in Florida where everything not plastic decays and is on some insect's menu.
Buy a copy of FHB or JLC and skim the ads, go to the web sites, and then find a dealer close to you. Consider the accessories available e.g. rails, newel posts, balusters etc, and if you want them in the same product or PT lumber.
If you get a solid product then you won't have address the issue of dressing the edge with a skirt if you don't want to.
Just a couple of names you may want to check on the internet are Trex and Weatherbest. I have used the Trex and found it to be a decent product. I have not used the Weatherbest but it looks very similar. The decking (5/4 x 6) runs about 2$ per lineal foot for either. Both have good guarantees.
