Looking for some trade tips on sealing a drain on a Lav basin.
I finally removed the old worn out Moen single control faucet in the Kids bath. Apparently they didn’t have the stregth to pull it on anymore. I installed a Glacier Bay dual handle and since this is Nickel colored, instead of chrome, I also changed out the stopper and drain assembly to the trap. Seems the new one is more plactic than the old one, but appeared to be functional. I used plumbers putty and installed the same that I have in the past but the rubber tappered washer that seals the bottom of the basin is leaking. The seal to the ceramic is fine but the rubber is not sealing around the treaded drain portion. Tigthening it more does not help. Any ideas.

The plumber's putty should be sealing the actual basin to drain flange connection. I'm guessing the overflow drains into line below flange and above rubber gasket. Is it possible that there is a crack in the flange or directly under it?
Does it leak when the drain is closed with water standing in basin or only when draining?

Whatever you can do or dream you can,
Begin it

It begins to leak when the basin is full. More water entering than water exitting. It must be the overflow.
I could silicone the treads but shouldn't the rubber flange seal when compressed.
I don't see any cracks.
As Peter suggested, the place to stop the water is inside the lav, not underneath. If tightening the nut doesn't help, you might try taking everything apart, cleaning and drying it and re-assembling it with a good bead of 100% silicone between the upper flange and the lav.

I don't know if this suggestion will help you but it has worked every time for me! I remove the big nut and the rubber washer and wrap the threaded part with a healthy layer of teflon tape. Slide the rubber washer up over it and tighten the nut back up. I now do this on every lav faucet install right from the start and have never had a leak. Seems the water just follows around the threads and leaks out the bottom without the tape! Good luck!

When you assembled the drain.....was there a thin fiber friction washer that went on after the rubber taper washer and then the nut.
That friction washer is to allow the nut to rotate without friction as it tightens on the rubber that might otherwise distort the rubber washer out of shape and causes a leak!

I don't recall seeing any friction washer. Just the nut to the compression washer. I'll try the teflon tape on the threads and see if that works first.
Thanks all for the suggestions.
