Got a heat-n-glow fireplace when a company went bankrupt. It’s pier style (3 glass sides) and ‘b’ vented thru the ceiling.
There is no attic in this area. I cut away the isonene foam to install the vent. Can I safely spray some “great Stuff” up there between the outside venting and the isonene to keep the air from going out at the roofline? (I will be adding a wall box around the vent but can’t do it just yet.)
Also the pilot light seems VERY high even when I adjust it low. Does anybody have an estimate of how many ccf/day the pilot
should use when the fireplace is not being turned on? (I did try asking the remaining heat-n-glow dealer but they were less than helpful, and the company has no contact point from end users as far as I can tell. )

B vent requires at least 1"
B vent requires at least 1" clearance from combustibles
then what do they use to pack it?

See if you can retrofit the unit with electronic ignition.
There may be another dealer out there with a retrofit kit, or there may be a 3rd party kit. Any dealer with the kit in stock knows it will be worthless in another year, so they might as well sell it to whoever wants it at whatever price they can get.
(Assuming, of course, there is such a kit.)
Heat-n-Glo out of business?
Or is it just one particular dealer who is going out of business?
BTW - you might want to check into using some fire retardent foam like this: http://www.amazon.com/Touch-Foam-4004501212-FireBreak-Resistant/dp/B0017J1JXU but really, I have no idea if it would be safe. Definately no standard foam.
PS: Google for "Temp Mat" Insulation
