I just ordered my first air nailer, a Bostitch N88RH-2MCN which I’ll use for some remodeling and other projects. The manual recomends I use a filter to protect the tool from moisture and dirt. Is this something most people do? Do I just buy a filter unit which mounts between the compressor and the air line? Any advice you may have will be appreciated.

Love my N88 - never had a problem; dropped it off roofs; just keep it lubricated and it keeps going
Got Bostich 15 gage finish nailer, coil roofing nailer, and flooring nailer. All fine.

Also have N88RH. Bought it before the MCN parts were made for it. It's a workhorse.
[If anyone has the old N88RH and wants to convert to the MCN, the Bostich part number for the conversion kit is MCN-KIT and it costs about $65.]
Anyway, I don't know anyone who actually uses a separate air filter other than the stadard intake filter on a lot of compressors.

Philarenewal,
Thanks. I'm hoping this nailer will shoot 1 1/2 inch nails without the MCN attatchment installed. I'm making some dog houses, and aparently there is no depth of set adjustment on the MCN attatchment.

I know a way to find out. Let us know how it goes. ;-)

Thanks to all for the replys. Once the short nails come in, I'll post how they work.

Mine shoots the hanger nails fine without the MCN head attached.
That's good to know. Thanks.

4-5 drops of air tool oil every morning you use and you're ready to go. Filters are not the norm- you're air compressor should have one on the intake, and the small amount of condensate water from compressed air won't hurt the gun if it's kept oiled.
I've had good luck with bostich too.

"so it goes"
I've only put about twenty boxes of 16d and 12d nails through mine - never a jam but it has doubled on me a couple times even with the sequential trigger. Oil it every time I use it and only lend it to a sellect few. In fairness, I've Accuset, Sears, DeWalt, Tradesman, and a few un-branded Chinese made nail-blowers and they all work pretty good without any annoying habits. My Sears 18ga has tens of thousands of brads through it without a single jam or misfire.
