I think the idea of explaining to your clients of upcoming expectancies during the coming year for their new structure is a great idea. In the October issue, John Lemon, a General Contractor, in Napa, California, wrote an article for each of us contractors to think about. We dislike having to constantly explain that ‘that’ noise or ‘that sqeak’ is normal, pretty soon the customer assumes we are shrugging them off. Truly, it would be to our benefit (and sanity) to issue a short letter to our clients preparing them for the quiet time noises they will hear and cracks they will see. Thanks, John, for the insight. We as contractors should never be too proud to learn from others. Besides, it’s in our best interest, anyway!

Boy, I don't know about buying a house from a guy named "Mr. Lemon." Every problem would make you think, God, what's next?
I'm surprised every time I hear someone say they decided to buy new because they wanted a house with no problems. I LIKE that my house has had 60 years to decide where the foundation should really be. Plus I'm not as prone to hysteria over little problems like squeaks on the stairs -- it's more like, "Heck, you didn't fall through the stairs? That's pretty good!"
