I need another portable table saw. already have the makita 8 1/4 and a nearly dead skil 10″. does anyone have any comment about the new Makita. I cannot find one to look at hearabouts.
for nearly $200 more I would also consider the dewalt 10″. portability is one of the main considerations and the dewalt is way big for my old ass to be fighting up long flights of stairs. I’m sure i could buy the makita from tool crib and send it back if it didn’t suit my geriatric temperment but that seems like a hassle.

George the Journal of Light construction reviewed this topic two issues back. If I remeber correctly they gave the makita fairly good reviews.

George,
I am finish carpenter in the SF bay area, and I purchased the 2703K about a month ago...nothing but praise from me. It's powerful, smooth, and the new rack & pinion bevel adjustment is terrific. As for the weight, the saw alone is very easy to move around, however the stand (which came free with the saw) is thick guage steel and combined (bolted together) they are a bear. My solution was to simply install the machine bolts in the stand holes from beneath with push-nuts on top. Now I have a stand with with four locator studs that I can easily place the saw onto. To be able to transport them seperately and yet quickly set-up/knock-down has been a pleasure. Best of luck.
cheers, Will
