Can anyone offer safe suggestions for enlarging an existing door opening in an 8″ (stack bond) block wall? The wall in question has an existing 24″ wide door with a hollow metal frame that we’d like to increase to 36″. (40″ rough opening.) I am concerned about the lack of an “arch effect” as would be found in opening up a “normal” running bond wall. Compounding my problem is the fact that the interior of the room is “spectraglaze”, and we’d like to keep it that spectra glazeinished product. I’d appreciate any tips or input on the subject, as I’ve struck out on all my other research.
