We’re going to add a few skylights to brighten up a north room and are curious if anyone has good or bad experiences with any brands. We live in CT near the coast. Heat loss is a concern so advice on any way that could be minimized would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Tom

Velux would be my brand of choice. I've had good luck with them. Proper install is very important. I've seen way less problems with Velux than other so called "good" brands.
The glass and chase are the potential energy losers. You need to choose the best glazing option for your situation, but it is still a window so the r-value could be or is way less than your attic insulation.
The chase is a side wall exposed to temp. extremes on it's backside. Again, unless you detail the shit outta it, your r-value there will be less than the attic rating.
There are a few things you can do. Add foam board to the side wall of the opening (interior side) behind the drywall. Insulate the chase and seal the backside to the passage of air. Just filling the stud spaces with fibreglass will be pretty much worthless unless the attic side is air sealed.
