I’m a furniture builder trying to reno a bathroom. I just installed a new Toto Aquias toilet today. Everything seems to work except the bowl retains very little water. You can hear water trickling through the trap after the flush is finished. It seems to me like the trap is siphoning the bowl dry somehow. Does anyone have any suggestions, it’s the weekend and I know I won’t be able to get a plumber in for at least a week and it’s my only bathroom. Help!

It's vaguely possible that the bowl is defective. Get a bucket or large pot and SLOWLY pour water into the bowl. See how high you can get it. If it slowly goes down from the high point then likely the bowl is defective. If it goes down more quickly you may have a vent problem or some such. If you can't get it to go high at all, it may be that this is as good as it gets.
DanH Thanks for the reply. i poured a half full mop bucket into the toilet slowly. Nothing happened, the water level stayed where it was. This toilet has a separate PVC trap that the toilet slips onto. is it possible that i have not installed the trap properly ?
Unfortunately, they don't have installation instructions for that model on the web.

ya, I couldn't find anything on the net either. i think like you said there must be some kind of vent problem that is causing the trap to siphon.
Check this link out... There are others who have experiences the "low" water level??http://www.toiletsthatwork.com/toto-toilet-detail.asp?id=CST414M&name=AQUIA&view=1&view2=seat
Thanks for the link, it really helped. I think the toilet is working how it is intended. I'm fairly unhappy about the water level there is literally about a 3 in diameter spot of water you have to hit when doing #2. i wouldnt buy this toilet again. thanks for the advice Ted
I hate Toto toilets. The size of the 'water spot' being only one of the problems I have with them. For some reason a lot of plumbers like them though.
What would cause a vent problem? the old toilet worked fine.
There's usually a valve which can adjust the level of water allowed into the tank and thus the bowl. Does the tank fill up properly?
I have played around with the fill adjustment but the water drains as quick as it can fill. It seems like the trap is draining. Even if i pour water from a bucket the water stays at the same level
