I hope SPECB pipes back in and sez which he's got.
I believe that red unit at bottom is the Crain 812, which I've been eyeballing pretty seriously for a particular task in my house...but floated the idea in another thread weeks ago and general consensus given to me (a DIYer) was it was more than I needed to go for for the task I got in front of me. SO anyway - would love to know if that's the one he went for and how its working out!DUM SPIRO SPERO: "While I breathe I hope"
I know some pro flooring guys with an undercut saw similar to the stand up red one, it does a sweet job and they've had it for years and years.
The power undercuts I've used are like the grinder style model. I rent them, I fear them and pray they don't find a nail.
I have used my biscut joiner on occasion for the task.

I know a tile guy who's brother used a grinder with a wood blade in it and no guard. lost control of it and it took his other hand off at the wrist. they re-attatched it thank god. so be wary of the impovised grinder."it aint the work I mind,
It's the feeling of falling further behind."Bozini Latini
I've used an angle grinder with a wood blade and no guard. Fear is what keeps me awake during these operations. I always pay close attention to where that blade is, where my fingers are, and which direction it will go if it kicks back for any reason. It's for this very purpose I want to get one with a hold-down switch, rather than the one I currently have, which must be manually switched off. Would also be nice to find one with an electronic brake. This way if anything goes awry the blade is spinning for the least possible amount of time. If anyone knows a grinder with electronic braking, can you clue me in?--------------------------------------------------------

Whenever I have to trim the mate wall openings I use an electric chainsaw. Do you think the jamb saw is easier and faster? Thanks, Harley
