Saw it today, on US1 somewhere north of Cheraw SC. A house, with window shutters made from lattice panels, painted white.
A) it looked tacky as all get-out, and B) I gotta get a digital cam!

These are non-operational, right?
yep, just screwed to the side of the house like all decorative shutters. The house was blue.
Would it matter? :)
Yes it would.
Operational shutter is supposed to protect the window from rain and storm. Why would anybody in their right mind use lattice for that.
On the other hand why would anybody in their right mind want to use lattice for non-operational shutter? :)
Poor man's burglar bars?
Might work if you burglar was 90+ years old or quadriplegic. Didn't know this particular demographic was such a threat.
Did the "shutters" have any kind of frame, or were they just chunks of lattice screwed (nailed?) to the wall?
You considering a design change on your house ?

It would be an improvement.

Actually it was that old horrified fascination thing, like picking and poking at a wound to see how bad it is. I was trying to find out if I should shiver with disgust (with frame) or shudder with disgust (no frame).
go for the disgust, Dunc. no frames, jsut the lattice
Gotta get a pic next time -- it's on Us 1 between cheraw and rockinham, on the right headed north
They should put window boxes under each one and let ivy climb on the shutters.
Might almost look good then.
Be creative,
andy
