Hi,
I own a 100 year old home in Canada (N of Toronto) that still has its original windows. I am looking for online sources for windows and storm windows so that I can find out what it might cost me to either replace or protect them. Anyone got a web site for these products that actually works, that will give me prices for various sizes/types of windows and/or storms? I’ve just about exhausted Google, I’m afraid.

Greetings nail,
As a first time poster Welcome to Breaktime.
This post, in response to your question, will bump the thread through the more visual 'recent discussion' listing again.
Perhaps it will catch someones attention that can help you with advice.

I have never seen a web source for direct window sales. You are best advised to work with a local dealer, i.e., a lumberyard or replacement window contractor.
Thanks Gene. I have had the same thought, and even looked into a bit, but I was hoping for a "miracle site" that I could browse without leaving my chair, and without "wasting" the time of a contractor, as I am really only curious at this point. Oh well, I'll keep looking and hoping.
Maybe someone could give an estimation to replace my windows? Anyone out there with a ballpark price (US $ or CDN $) for a 30 x 60 inch window (single or double hung, 6 over 6 (or look-alike), double glaze). Even a rough idea of what I can expect would be a huge help for budgeting in the future.
As well, if anyone can guess at an efficient storm window to fit that size, that would be wonderful!
Thanks all.
Start off thinking that each window . . . ripout, disposal, furnish and install new one . . . will cost you $600 USD, then go from there.
Unless the wood is crumbling into fragments from termite damage or rot, you're usually better off to rehab your old windows. If they're falling apart, the parts can be cleaned up and re-assembled. Usually that's a better result for less money. For making storms for your existing windows, the best thing is to find a small local shop that will send someone out to measure and take full responsibility for getting it right.

Nail,
For historic storm/screen combo units try http://www.adamsarch.com
Don't let the prices scare you I was able to talk them into a 20% discount when I ordered 30 units for my house.
