i am rebuilding a stair newell, baluster, handrail etc. using shop built box newells. the job is short run of apprx. 6 steps straight up, winding to the right w/ 3 more steps and another run of 5 or so up. my question is the left rail dead ends into the wall and the right will meet another newell and then continue up to the right, SO should i bring the lower handrail up w/ an upturn piece of rail to meet the 2nd. newell at relatively the same height as the rail continuing up to right??? (whew, i hope you can follow that!!) lastly does anyone know of a good book w/ railing design ideas??
thanks

DiChristoforo? "guide to tangential stairbuilding" I have it buried away somewhere, has all the ifo and MORE.
On track with you, yes, You may want an upturned transition or gooseneck to tie the rail to the level of the upper rail as they turn the corner, you may well need another gooseneck at the lower side of the upper rail.
If you can address a post to JerraldHayes or StanFoster or Armin, you will get a broader and more intelligent response.
I just wing it using what I have to work with.
