per the N.C. version of this code, the permitter of slab foundations shall be provided with 1″ of foam insulation (R-5) see appendix Q, and per paragraph R324.3.5.2 this foam is to be protected with a cementitious coating. Does anyone out there know of a simple way to apply a good coating to Dow blueboard? On a past job we had to attach wire and then stucco over the foam. This method was very time consuming and thus expensive. I would like to know how others have met this requirement. Thanks.

The guys here do it with Sto, Parex, or some other competitor brand of EIFS stucco.
Here's my DIH.
18"deep footings? or less? Protect the foam with 2 @ 3/4" layers of ply wrapped in plastic film for slickness. Rope handle on the outer layer. Back fill with dirt that will not collapse. Pull out outer ply, then inner ply, then plastic. Pour pea gravel slurry in resulting trench.
1 cu-ft slurry will fill 5.3 feet of 18" x1 1/2" trench.

I am not so much interested in protecting the underground foam, it's the stuff above ground that is giving me fits. Like your DIH idea. Why are you giving up caffeine? Have they now banned this in places where you live?
