I was here a week or two ago looking for advice on bending drywall to somewhere about a 3′-4′ radius for a semi-barrel ceiling and got some good advice. To make a long story short, I built a form to bend ½â€ drywall to a 3’ radius and had some pretty god luck wetting the board and bending. But as the drywall got within 6†of the desired radius, I would head a “snap†and would find the board broken in ½. I knew there must be an easier way since I had an even tighter radius to do in a walk in closet so I got on the phone and called US Gypsum back in <!—-><!—-> <!—-><!—-><!—-> <!—->Chicago<!—-><!—-> <!—-><!—-> and found a solution. US Gypsum sells a product that’s called Flexible Gypsum Panels. Each sheet is 1/4’†thick and about $16.00 a sheet retail but in ten minutes I had an arch formed with about a 1.5†radius! No swearing, no breaking, just a perfectly formed arch. Looks like the 3’-4’ radius for my ceiling is going to be a piece of cake. If you get into a situation for some pretty radical curves, I can’t recommend this stuff highly enough. $16.00 per sheet retail may sound like a lot but it looks like I’m going to have a pretty easy time building a 40’ long semi-barrel ceiling. Just thought I would pass it along.
