A friend of mine is in engineered lumber products sales, and told me about what NVR is doing building multifamily units down in the Maryland area.
Floorframes, built with I-joists 24-inches on center, 1-1/8 decking, are built pancake style atop the foundations, second floor right on top of the first.
The engineered trussed roof structure is built right on top of the second floor deck, then fully sheathed, flashed, edges all detailed, papered, and shingled. Now it looks like a house for midgets.
Crane arrives, following the truck with all the panelized wall sections, crew puts on the bags, and in six hours or so, the whole place goes up.
Sounds like boogerin’ with Blue, only on steroids!
I am told that by building and finishing the roofs like this, NVR realizes quite a savings in workers comp premium cost. Just imagine how easy and comfortable it must be to do all that fascia, dripedge, starter courses, etc., just standing on the ground and working right there in front of you.
