In the past I’ve installed many a wood floor ( material stored and acclimatized onsite 2 weeks preinstallation) over rosin paper. with few problems. Then I switched from rosin paper to construction adhesive ( PL Premium), resulting in no squeaks and no problems.
Now I’m faced with a 30 x 35 foot area to be covered with 4″ oak over Advantek subfloor on 12″ TJIs with circulating hot water radiant heat hose stapled to the underside of the subfloor.
I have no prior experience with this type of heat…I’d like to have the stock kiln dried to 10 % or so, and glue it down with a snug fit between boards ( 1/32″).and 1′” perimeter gap around the room…hopefully avoiding major shrinkage this winter, yet giving it some room to grow this summer ( there will be cental AC, but it is not a full time residence). Since the radiant tubing is already in place, my nailing is restricted to the TJIs which are on 16″ centers….makes the glue alternative even more attractive
I wrote the PL people, and the recommendation was “no” because the squeeze-out would contaminate the surface of the flooring…..which isn’t a concern for me at all…I just don’t know how the wood will react in concert with this type of heat. Anybody out there tackle this situation recently? I’d appreciate the advice.

Murph - how hot will the floor be? If its still cool enough to walk on, I think the adhesive will be fine. The subfloor gets that hot in the summer sun, and it already has adhesive gluing it to the joists.
I'd glue it.
