To keep the overall height of a new oak flooring low so that existing steel entry door will not drag, I was wondering if any of you know who manufactures 1/2 T&G unfinished oak flooring? My thinking was since 3/4 plywood and 3/4 flooring gives me a problem at the door and a pronounced mis-match at an adjacent tile and split brick floor, that I would use 3/4 plywood and 1/2 flooring. Thus reducing the height 1/4 inch.
Another possibility is use the 3/4 flooring and 5/8 plywood.
By the way this will be installed on an existing concrete slab.
Any other good ideas?

The oak I see in old buildings around here is only 5/16" thick, T&G, strips about 1 1/2" wide. I've heard that you can still get that stuff because people need it for remodeling and repairs.

*I think that those prefinished "floating wood floor" systems are less than 3/4". I also haven't heard anything bad about them either. I believe that they are made to go on slabs with a layer of thin foam between the floor and the slab? I'm sure someone here knows more about them than I do.Ed.
*James:Try firebird-ind.com, but as I've mentioned previously the material can get pricey. Kentuckywood.com is another to look at, but they don't list all their products. There are also some manufacturers that produce an unfinished engineeered 1/2" in thickness, which has a considerable "wear layer" Those are generally used by folks attempting a custom stain.
*Ummmm... why not just use 1/2" plywood? You're installing over a concrete slab anyway, so strength is not a problem, and if you use staples to attach the T&G, you should not encounter much trouble with rebounding.Sounds simpler to me, anyway.Luck to you.
*Check out Launstein Hardwoods, they have a website and also an advertisement in FHB. They might carry something like what you're looking for because they manufacture 3/8" pre-sanded (but unfinished) hardwood in 2-5 inch widths of various species.
