I've gotten similar calls from my agents over the years.
some times when I've gone in they had quotes ready for all kinds of new insurance that I didn't yet have. (But not always)
Virtually every time they've gone through my homeowners and auto policies and looked of things that they could change to keep our rates down. But they've also occasionally questioned if I had enough insurance on the house for the current value, or had enough to cover the contents, etc.
Several times there have not ended up being any changes. I have never, ever bought more insurance from their sales pitches. But more than once they've come up with ways to save money.
.
I think the reason for this is that they're trying to compete with the insurance ads on TV that promise lower rates. If they can keep your insurance rates down you're less likely to switch.
But that's just speculation...
Well, if it's State Farm they could be getting set to pull your insurance.
Yeah state farm is dropping all coastal policies in florida after the 47% rate hike not given. on top of 54% the year before.
I set up a visit to State Farm two weeks ago to review my coverage (in Central Texas).
Thanks to Hardie Board Sliding and a Standing Seam Metal roof, I walked out with significantly increased coverage with significantly lower premiums.
At the end of 2003 I got a similar call from my agent (allstate) and she and my wife went over your policy's, seemed there were some things I could have done better at the time. So we made the changes and it amounted to about $20 more a month on my payments. Long story short.
House burns to the ground 6 months later. . . If I don't make the changes I'm about $350,000 light on the rebuilding costs and had no housing or additional living costs.
Moral: Pay attention to your insurance!

To add to Joe's story re under coverage, most auto policies have an uninsured motorist $ amount that is a minimum required by law.
If you are in accident involving injuries with an uninsured motorist, that coverage is going to last about 6 seconds in the hospital emergency room.
Probably about enuff for a broken arm, the rest is going to be on you.
Ins agents never seem to mention this coverage, it's not expensive to increase the coverage.
Why do you have $500,000 or more of liability coverage & next to nothing to protect yourself?

In years of coverage with various co., they all want to do this once a year. If they don't, you should initiate the call. Everyones life changes, and without a review, the co. doesn't know about it. It is to your benefit. Even if they recomend more at more cost, at least you have the choice.
