Client of mine has redone a secondary upstairs bathroom. Rotated toilet 90 degrees, shifted lav and added vanity (my part) and converted linen cabinet and shower into a 5′ tub and shower with subway tile. All looks really good.
I installed the cabinet door and drawer fronts this morning and he mentions that the tub valve is acting weird. When the lawn sprinker system comes on the tub valve opens up. Not just shower riser draining but opens up and flows. He also said he gets a tremendous vibration in the pipes all the way down to the water heater.
The tub valve is new but the piping for the most part was there for the shower before. The issue is new.
I’m thinking its related to the pressure balancing valve. Not sure what brand valve but the toilet is a Toto so he’s not skimping.
His plumber is coming back in a couple of days and will look at it, (in other words, it ain’t mine to fix) but I’m curious what your collective thoughts are.

Th at is the clue. And I suspect that either the mechancial vibration is causing the valve to work open or the surges in pressure is directly operating on the valve.
Is this a continous vibration when the sprinkers are running? Or just when it switches zones? How many zones?
.
A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
I understand that it is continuous. I'm back on Monday to run some crown, should know by then.TFB (Bill)
That sound like something loose in the path of the water flow. Most often it is caused by a an old fashion valve with a loose washer. But there could be some debrie that has gotten into the pipe. Now there might be a manual valve in the line to the sprinkers.Or if there is a comon solienod valve or the problem might be limited to one zone so he needs to verify that.So check the valves and if nothing found then try opening the pipe and flushing it out..

Will do, ThanksTFB (Bill)
I'd say the valve's defective.
I wonder if he has a circ system.
Circs have a check valve, & if someone is not paying attention & puts in a regular swing check the pressure drop from the upstream side will cause a chatter that scares the crapp outta people.
