what is a .odt file? Obviously I can Google to find out but I'm not gonna jump in head first into opeing a strange looking file.
Make sense?
It is a google document file. I respect your concern. Watch out.http://www.google.com/search?q=odt+file&sourceid=navclient-ff&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1B3GGGL_enUS272US273Pete
My son uses Open office instead of MS office.
When you save you can choose to save as as .doc
For those afraid to go there, come here...copy paste of it Basics1; First is for the good of all - with all we have.

Treat everyone with respect. Try to understand their fears, desires, wants and dreams.
We are the best there is to help them. If not we help them find the people that can help them better.
We take care of each other and our helpers, so we can feel strong, be confident and do good work. We do the best work!
We respect their needs and hopes, their families neighbors and homes.
And we leave no doubt about that from the beginning to the end.
And we charge well, but fair.
We learn at every moment. We take care, but also understand the perfect is the enemy of the good.
We have fun when we can because joy brings good work and good life.
When we have to; we will dig out a muddy trench in the rain and try to figure out how to avoid that.

Welcome to the Taunton University of Knowledge FHB Campus at Breaktime. where ... Excellence is its own reward!
halabis has been here for at least 5 years.
I think it's time he and some of the other oldsters learn how to make readily readable posts and links.
Point taken. It was just a quick summary of my thoughts about work for the folks I work with. Don't have MS office, thought google docs were common knowledge.
Appreciate all feedback.
Thanks,
Pete
Cheers to ya.
Use notepad, and save it as a text file, or wordpad, and save it as a doc file...It's all fun and games, until someone puts an eye out..You are always welcome at Quittintime

I edited my response.I meant to say wordpad for a doc file, and notepad for a text file. Not notepad for both...It's all fun and games, until someone puts an eye out..You are always welcome at Quittintime
I understand. Each company tries to lock us in to their product. I resist in the same way I dealt with bully's as a kid. Thought google using open docs was universal. Hey, I got Piffin to translate my post; I must be doing something right.
This floor is a s----------- . But at the end, most won't notice and the few that do will be amazed.Still having fun,

Makes sense.

And that word travels.....

Take this one with it,
We lose money on every job, but we make it up in volume!!! No one should regard themselve as "God's gift to man." But rather a mere man whos gifts are from God.
Never known anyone who was successful with that business model, but.....
know some that have tried it!
JimNever underestimate the value of a sharp pencil or good light.
It's always worked for me.
What do you think is wrong with this business model? For the company?
Or, for society?Pete
Pete,
I suspect there is some confusion or maybe you missed a post in there.....
Your treatise ended with:
>>If we lose money - we lose money, but above all we will be known as the people who delivered an excellent job.<<
I posted agreement and commented........And word travels.....
I meant this to mean that if you lose money on a job or two, but maintain your reputation as "the people who delivered an excellent job." Word of your performance will travel and you will continue to be employed frequently.
CardiacPaul posted to me >> We lose money on every job, but we make it up on volume!!<< Although there was no smiley face, I assumed this was a "tongue in cheek" remark.
I replied that I knew a few people who had tried the suggested "lose money on every job" and it did not work out so well.
Obviously, if one "loses money on every job" and further try to make up the losses with even more money-losing jobs - the company will not survive long.
The "lose money on every job" company will go belly up when their cash reserves are gone, workers are unemployed, owner is unemployed, etc. A few customers will benefit from the under-priced (but excellent!) jobs (until the cash runs out).
So my answer is the "lose money on every job" business model is certainly not good for the company or, for society.

GM & Chrysler tried it, looks like the unions came out OK.
Can't the same for the rest of the players.

Yes I should have put a smily or <G> or LOL, sorry for that , its such an old one that I assumed most heard it.

Jim,
you've got me thinking which is always a bit scary. If you look over the last ten thousand years what business model works better over the long time for the most people involved? Alexander and Genghis Khan ruled the greatest empires by establishing order, respecting the local beliefs, maintaining the trusted local managers, etc....
The quick and greedy always fall. Haven't thought it through, no time right now. Interesting discussion.pete
Exactly! As this small Chinese man told me at 7:30.
